About Me

Hi! My name is Sarah Kershner and I have been a practicing Clinical Social Worker for more than 20 years, much of that time in private practice.
If you, like many others in our technologically-enhanced, yet relationally-impoverished world feel disconnected from yourself or from those around you, therapy with a skilled clinician can truly help. When I work with children, adolescents, and adults I use a strengths-based approach. My skills in facilitating communication help clients remove barriers that can impair connection and impact personal relationships. My way of working is trauma-sensitive and my years of crisis work blend well with a newfound appreciation of the nervous system and how it shows up in the therapy room.
I like the phrase “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step,” because it corresponds with how I view therapy. My love of and training in Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy- a compassionate and effective model for human transformation- makes that first single step feel easy.
Therapy can feel daunting at times, but it is possible for us to start where you feel comfortable and journey confidently together—at your pace—toward healing, wholeness and better relationships.
I have extensive experience with the trans community, and their families, especially while transitioning so the LBGTQIA+ community is welcomed! I have a particular knack for working with adolescents, and am skilled at helping them navigate all that comes with reaching adulthood. Please contact me and we can talk about how I can support you or your child.
Nice to meet you!

Sarah Kershner, LCSW
